Making Ford's rally heritage sound alive.
To support Ford's announcement that it will return to the FIA World Rally Championship as a full factory team in 2028, Chrome Productions built a 60-second film from 50 years of archive footage.
Fifty years of rally had to hit like one film, with the energy of the music underneath and the cars out in front of it.
The full mix session, redrawn. Marked: off-screen engine roar, exhaust pops, sharp turn, jump, downshift, powerslide, cockpit, windscreen crack, play-by-play, field repairs, gravel shower, dirt, slush, mud and epic slo-mo.
The approach
The cars were the protagonists.
The Escort Cosworth backfires were brought forward, so they became a memorable feature of the car.
Every car got its own voice.
Each change in picture could trigger a change in engine character, so the Ford rally cars stayed distinct.
The music backed off. The cars took over.
Music was reduced in selected sections. When it returned, it had greater impact.
Every surface felt different.
The goal was not simply to add more sound. It was to make each environment feel physically different.
Big sound doesn't mean everything is loud.
It comes from knowing what should dominate, when it should disappear, and what the audience should feel next.
